The Knox County Community Health Improvement Plan proposes various community collaborations, programs and activities in an effort address the six identified priority health concerns for Knox County. Suggested programming and activities for community organizations and agencies to initiate include: - Chronic disease management programs offered in collaboration with physician offices to promote and ensure referral, education, and following a proper course of treatment.
- Comprehensive community health education and marketing programs which address: chronic disease, dental and oral health, tobacco use and second-hand smoke, controlling asthma, indoor air quality, primary and preventative health care, mental health warning signs and symptoms, mental health treatment and related social stigmas, and substance abuse.
- Marketing programs to change public attitudes about tobacco use, and promote smoking cessation through the immediate and long-term benefits of cessation; assuring that tobacco cessation programs are available throughout Knox County residents.
- Community collaboration efforts to address access to care concerns related to primary and preventative health care, dental health care, mental health treatment, and substance abuse counseling and treatment.
- Collaborative partnerships between community agencies and physician offices to provide appropriate and timely health care screenings, educational information, and appropriate programming.
- Programs providing an overview of health care resources available in the community and linkages ensure that linkages are provided for continuing care.
- Organized efforts to work with appropriate local governments to establish a ban which prohibits smoking in indoor public places for incorporated and unincorporated areas of Knox County.
