Food Safety Program

The purpose of the Knox County Food Safety Program is to identify, reduce, and whenever possible, eliminate factors in food service operations which have the potential to create food borne illness.
The Division of Environmental Health focuses on prevention and enforcement as a means of achieving this goal within our county. By conducting unannounced inspections, licensing of facilities, and providing educational programs, the health department works to ensure the food safety within our community.

Restaurant and Retail Food Services
In accordance to the Knox County Food Safety Ordinance, restaurants and retail food services are subject to licensing of the facility, certification for food service sanitation, routine inspections, and plan review.

Temporary Food Establishments are designated as food services facilities that operate at a fixed location for a period of time not more than 14 consecutive days.
