What is the Knox Community Health Center?

The Knox Community Health Center (KCHC) is a federally qualified primary care health center that is community-based and patient-directed. It is a locally based nonprofit organization governed by a governance board comprised of area volunteers and patients of the Community Health Center.

By mission and design, KCHC exists to serve those who have limited access to health care although all are welcome. Unlike most private practices, Knox Community Health Center welcomes low-income individuals, the uninsured, under-insured, insured, immigrant, migrant, and seasonal farm workers and those who are homeless.

Payment at the KCHC is based on income. Eligible patients can qualify for a sliding fee scale to ensure income or lack of insurance is not a barrier to medical, dental, and behavioral health care.

As a federally qualified health center, KCHC receives funding under Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), a division of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). This health center receives HHS funding and has Federal Public Health Services (PHS) deemed status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims, for itself and its covered individuals.
